Currently Coveting

Pretty much every item in Gretchen Jones's apartment is a highly-covetable piece, her bohemian style the perfect balance of relaxed eclectic elegance. Refinery 29 posted this lovely house tour almost a year ago, and I've revisited it many a time.  I am currently coveting the vintage woven pillows on Gretchen's bed so hard right now that I can taste it. Many ebay and Etsy searches have come up empty-handed, so I'll keep on the hunt for the woven moments that I just can't shake.

I wouldn't be mad at a cuddle with her dog either if we're putting all of our cards on the table.

Topaz + Arrow's Lace Installation

I am getting such hardcore DREAMY/SEXY/LOVELY inspiration from Topaz + Arrow's latest DIY workshop. An interactive creative event filled with rad people, lovely installations, tasty snacks and cocktails sounds like perfection in an afternoon to me. Orchestrated by Morgan of Panda Head and Virginia of Denada Designs makes it all the more sweet, so if you are in the D.C. area be sure to hit up their calendar of monthly-moments.

This vintage 3D painting is everything. I am obsessed with it and bring people by the stellar vintage shop Horizons, where it resides, just to take a look. Pop in some time to see it in person and feast your eyes on the excellent pieces that also reside in this retro mecca. If you do, there is this hand-dyed shirt from Thailand that I am DYING for and haven't picked up yet, so, try not to snag it before I can. Thanksss.

I Spy Design: Annie Hall

I've always LOVED this floating bed on the white shag carpet in the cool loft space in Annie Hall. Just CAN'T take my eyes off of the shag/floor pillows/brown chairs/OTHER shag. Now I am upset that I don't live in a loft. And in the '70's.

Frankenweenie // Ghost // Amour

I Spy Design: Amour

Amour is heart-breaking and subtle and beautiful and an enigma and SO VERY French. An exquisitely painful story told in subtle sweet frames amid a backdrop of the perfect Parisian apartment. VERY Woody Allen in Paris from Austria. One of my favorite nooks in the film is the above kitchen table area with the cluster of oil paintings and photographs, warm lighting, and classic tiled floor. 

The stand out feature is the gorgeous herringbone wood floor throughout the entire apartment that are layered with vintage ethnic printed rugs.  Each room is framed by detailed molding and anchored with classic pieces like a piano or floor-to-ceiling built-in bookshelves. Parisian apartment perfection if I have ever seen it.

I Spy Design: Ghost

Saturday morning started with our down-right refusal to leave bed, thus creating an opportunity to scroll through old movies on Netflix. We landed on Ghost, most likely due to our recent obsession with Scandal, starring Patrick Swayze's best friend in Ghost. I have been wanting to re-watch this since moving to New York (TEN years ago) because the memory that resonated the most of this film is the couple's SOHO loft space. I did a little research on the space and it turns out that the loft belongs to sculptor Michele Oka Doner, and the blueprints of her home were recreated on a Paramount Soundstage for the film. You can see a full gallery of the Doner's home here.

The apartment lived up to the memory and had some elements in it that I didn't recall, like this geometric black and white screen. At first I thought the grid was created with paint, but then realized it is a solid white wooden screen that has cut-outs of negative space, creating the grid look. The screen serves as a sliding room divider that can create a separate room when closed, and while open keeps the energy flowing throughout the space. It could easily be DIYed for when we get our huge artist's lost in SOHO. Because it will happen.

Ghost came out in 1990 and serves as a style time capsule of a cool, yuppy/artist couple living in downtown Manhattan in this period. Sam and Molly's aesthetic is very "modern 1990" aka AMAZING. If this was circa now, the fridge (below) would be stainless steel, all glass, or a retro Smeg fridge. But as I said, this is 1990, so a beige standard refrigerator is what time it was. What makes this fridge special is the house-shaped structure that it lives in. I mean COME ON. Now my sad, standard beige fridge wants it's own house.

Inspiration: Elvis's Black + Gold Room

Yesterday's DIY Graphic Bulletin Board project on Rue was inspired heavily by Elvis Presley's bold black and gold TV room. The velvet sectional is couch perfection, the mirrored coffee table makes my heart skip a beat, and the above-lit op art mural is everything. Above all, the design anchor of the room is the black and gold color palette which so perfectly embodies a 1970's masculine vibe.

My brain started churning out ideas as soon as I feasted my eyes on the room, so it BEGGED the question why I haven't been to Graceland yet? At the very least, I had to hunt and gather a collection of photographs of one of the most incredible homes in the entire world and share them with you.

You can find endless aesthetic inspiration in Elvis Presley's gorgeous Graceland. It's room after room filled with lush fabrics, opulent stained glass, and luxurious wallpaper. Dream Couches

In Refinery 29's apartment tour of Samantha Peet's Greenpoint pad they prominently display her gorgeous Ligne Roset Togo Couch. A magazine tear from an old Dwell magazine (usually OFF-LIMITS for tears) with this couch on it has been on my wall for years now. YEARS I say! This high-end design piece served as total inspiration for our West Elm Baxter sectional choice.

Man oh man, we LOVE this cozy couch. It anchors our living room and it's clean lines create a fresh and modern feel. If you watch MACC, I am sure you have seen it as a lovely back-drop for some of my DIY videos. Who needs to give away your first-born for a Ligne Roset when this bad boy exists? Not I, said the convert.

Apartamento is a European publication by Nacho Alegre and Omar Sosa celebrating every day home interiors. That is pretty much all I want to do. Ever. Celebrate home interiors. The mag's mission statement sings a tune similar to the heart of this blog, and I have coveted this publication for years. Never the near or easy purchase for the trusty Amazon wishlist, it's become just a dreamy, coveted, pricey perfect publication that one day I'll subscribe to for m'self.

Eames, I am Eternally Yours...

We have discussed Eames before, and my undying love and admiration for the couple who invente mid-century design. My husband works at Time and one of the perks of his job is getting to see all of the incredible photo galleries they have. This Ray and Charles Eames gallery is from their September 1950 issue of LIFE Magazine. 

In the below photo, Eames stands with a heating duct he DIY-ed, if you will. The caption kills me.
