Essentials: Wedding & Engagement Ring

The essential I literally NEVER EVER take off of my body is my wedding ring. I wear my engagement ring most of the time too, but I never remove my band. Just can't. The band we had made by Elma Blint, a local designer whom we found at Brooklyn Flea in 2008. We helped design it and provided the ice. The four tiny diamonds were from Will's grandmother's wedding band and the 7 diamonds in the middle were from the engagement ring my dad gave my stepmom. My parents up-graded on their 10th anniversary and at some point and gave us the ring to use. this method meant we didn't have to support the diamond industry, we could recycle family gems, and got to create a one-of-a-kind custom piece. It felt right to us and the rings mean everything to me.

The engagement ring belonged to my husband's paternal grandmother whose wedding anniversary is September 15th, the the same day Will proposed and the anniversary of the day we adopted Gracie. It is a vintage platinum art deco-style ring, just like the photos of vintage rings I had looked at on my own. I would have picked it out of a million rings had I had the choice. I love it.

Oh your rings are SUPER cool. I love the vintage feel to them. :) I got engaged a few months ago and swore to my fiance I didn't want a ring. But... then he got me one anyways and I adore it so much. The perfect little accessory.
Thanks,
Trish

What a beautiful story about your rings! It’s a great way of keeping the diamonds in the family, plus it really adds more significance to the band. Your engagement ring is gorgeous as well. The art deco style is very obvious, and you’re really lucky to have it – the vintage style of engagement rings is becoming a popular trend again these days!

That is such a beautiful ring and the story is just as beautiful! I came across your blog while I was looking at Used Engagement Rings and I'm happy I did because I love reading delightful posts like this one. Thank you for sharing your story with us Nest!

That makes sense. :) Some take even the temporary removal of wedding ring a bad omen to the relationship, or you simply felt suddenly apart from your husband without it. I’m more of the latter. :) You’ve used the gems from two older rings for it? Hmm… So, it is like an heirloom of two families. Cool! With that knowledge, it looks extra precious in my eyes. ;)

Wow!! Beautiful engagement rings. Truly loved them. Will be getting engaged soon at one of Chicago event venues. Looking for a stunning ring for it. Had gone through great ring collection but still haven’t found best one. Will look for some more designs online in discounts.
