Our wedding was the most loving, beautiful and fun day of my life. Everyone says their wedding was a blur, some don't even enjoy the day. But I must say, Will and I had the time of our lives. We took it all, breathed in every moment of this incredible celebration of our love, life, friends and family.

It was a communal day, a day made up of so many important people in our lives who have brought us to this point. We felt the support from each and every guest, and we felt completely embraced as we took our first step out into the gardens as husband and wife.

The details were what made the day so personal and special to us. Will and I wanted to do a lot of the wedding ourselves, without taking on too much stress. I think we found a nice balance, and were very connected with the different elements that made up the day.

When guests arrived, they were greeted by this custom designed wedding poster for us by Unless Someone Like You. We had our nuptials in our hometown of Alexandria, Virginia, but had to represent Brooklyn pride.

The invitations were by Pink Lily Press, who I found on Etsy. Jennifer was so patient and kind as we custom designed each piece of the invite on the most earth-friendly, recycled paper she had.

We made our programs ourselves and mounted them on the same black paper used by the invitation designer.

The broach on my bouquet belonged to my beloved Nana, and the flower petals that the little girls sprinkled along the aisle were from bouquets that Will has given me throughout our years together.

My dress was the most perfect piece I have ever worn. A Monique Lhuillier lace gown that was so stunning, so comfortable, and so very classic. It felt so me. Just a really pretty me.

My bridesmaids and man of honor wore vintage black cocktail dresses and a suit, respectively. I gave them a black feather from MPsen and vintage jewelry from We Dream In Colour. The ladies and sweet gentleman looked so elegant.

The flower girls wore plum dresses custom made by Rae Gun that looked so fantastic paired with the bright, crisp green flowers they carried. Will's Aunt Lynn tied on ribbons and hand-painted the baskets to match.

For the guest book, we made the sign and put out two polaroid cameras so that the guests could take pictures of themselves and place them in our book. The results were hilarious and sweet.

Our story is long and lovely and our journey together rich. Will and I had photographs from our twelve year friendship turned to relationship inside the 18th century River Farm house.

From our DJ to our photographer, to all of the indie designers who provided the different elements of our wedding, it felt great to support and patronize small, women-run businesses. The location was the American Horticulture Society, which is a 25-acre historic location and civic organization.

Will and I felt really good about the choices we made. Our wedding represented us and our life.

You look so radiant and natural! I love when brides look like an extra glowing version of themselves, without tons of makeup and fake tan and aqua net. Well done, being a wife and best friend to Will suits you beautifully!
