Caftain: Mail Version

This gorgeous vintage caftan arrived in the mail today from my talented friend Rachel Hobson. It is so perfect, so lovely, and SO SPRING. I am ready. And so is my caftan.

You know what else was in that box that I ordered from Rachel's cute daughter?
EIGHT BOXES OF GIRL SCOUT COOKIES. To, you know, freeze/eat all in one week.

NYFW: Mara Hoffman

I can't EVEN. I just can't. Mara Hoffman's Fall 2013 New York Fashion Week line just slayed my soul into a million little tiny pieces that will only be restored if I can live and die in the geometric-tribal-print caftans/kimono/tunic/dress moments that are peppered throughout the stunning show.

This line is making me feel like I did when I had my first elementary school crush. So thrilled and elated-beyond-belief that such an exquisite THING exists, yet the fact that it exists and I am not married to it just HURTS MY HEART. And no, I am not being dramatic, I am just stating the facts. Hard cold facts.

Take note of what is happening south of the model's ankles: Colorblock cap toe shoes. DIY your own shoes to look the same with my tutorial so you are one step closer to being runway-worthy.

NYFW: Lauren Moffat's Cabin-Themed Line

Refinery29 is a girl's best friend during Fashion Week, EVEN MORE SO when fashion week coincides with flu/snowstorm season and you want to check the latest and hottest designers from the warmth of your Pendleton-clad Eames lounge. Lauren Moffat was inspired by a recent romp in the Catskills and presented her new Fall '13 "Cabin Rentals" with an interactive presentation including acoustic guitars and cozy models. Um, yes please. Yes to each. And every. Piece you see here.

I am getting some serious Rosemary Woodhouse/Susie Bishop vibes and nautical under-tones from this gloriously cozy high fashion moment.

I want to be inside that cardigan, like NOW. See the whole slideshow on R29 here. For ALL show info and photos, Style is your go-to tool. Enjoy (while secretly in your pjs)!

The Little Mermaid Fascinator

Photo by David Gazzo for The Nickle Series

In my weekend wrap-up I mentioned Daisy's Little Mermaid fascinator and it has gotten quite the response. Here it is in all it's glory adorning her head at the She's A Rebel screening, and below are some gorgeous detail shots Daisy took so you could get a better look. The Dinglehopper really seals the deal for me.

The Knot Series: Up-Date

One of the many projects I have been working on in the last few weeks was wrapping up a shoot with The Knot for their DIY Wedding Series, starring moi (said like Miss Piggy for funsies). I worked sweat-shop-style on several projects for the series and am thrilled to be a part of it. It will air in mid-late February and I will share it with you here. I promise a plethora of pretty projects for brides and anyone who likes lovely things.

Buffalo Check

Buffalo Check...CHECK! These two cabin-ready-shirts just went into the trusty suitcase.

We are headed to a cabin (okay it's A HOUSE) in the Poconos for Thanksgiving and it's a long time coming. This has been discussed for a year, in the works for months, was planned and rescheduled and cancelled altogether due to Sandy. We finally get to make it happen tomorrow, and will be surrounded by mountains, deer, a nearby waterfall, and the woods until we return on Sunday. Expect the cabin instagram flow to be at high-tide. You know who else is stoked? This lady right here.

Project Sneak Peek

The inspiration....

The project...

While attending Williamsburg's Artists and Fleas in December of 2010 I discovered the jewelry maker Helveta Vyotlag and FELL HARD. Will picked up on my (many) loud hints and purchased the earrings for me that Christmas. They are a staple in my jewelry routine and I have been wanting to create a home design element inspired by them for forevs, and think the holidays are the perfect time.  Subscribe to my channel see the how-to video when it comes out on MACC.

Downton Bros 4 Life T-Shirt

My homegirl Daisy May Edwards is a GENIUS in all senses of the word and we connect on all of the levels in the world. ONE VERY IMPORTANT ONE IS DOWNTON ABBEY. Daisy is a talented illustrator who sometimes uses her blessings to make our day with things like the above image that you can now purchase and wear as a t-shirt

Fall Essential: Hunter Boots

Fall in New York means the smell of a chimney on the dog's fur after a walk, the cozy smell of spices mulling on the stove top, and some cool, crisp rainy days. On those days, my feet are perfectly protected by the staple every city girl needs, a pair of classic Hunter boots. While scheduling this post I saw new foldable Hunter boots on Cup of Jo yesterday. Perfectly practical for picnics and hikes.

Thank you to my sweetest and dearest in-laws for giving these forever pieces to me for my birthday. See more fall essentials here.

Fall Essential: Fringe Boots

These Amelia fringe ankle boots from ASOS are almost ALWAYS gracing my feet and are an essential fall fashion staple. Cozy, comfy, and easy to throw on to run the dogs out, I'll be wearing these the very few days it isn't raining this season. Let me revel in them for the five minutes of fall we have before we are all buried under a sea of puffy coats.

Fall Essential: DIY Colorblock Flats

I am very honored, humbled, and excited to share my DIY Colorblock Ballet flats tutorial with you that I created for my very favorite blog, Cup of Jo. You can also watch the video tutorial as well, that may or may not include adorable dog photos. And if you know me, you know the answer is maybe DEFINITELY.

Fall Essential: Cozy Caftan

We all know I love a caftan.  I found this gem in a thrift store in Asheville, North Carolina last fall, and just pulled it out for this season. A cozy caftan is a fall fashion must for me. Layer it with a long or short sleeve cotton shirt and pair it with jeans and boots or mocassins.

More fall fashion essentials coming this week. For more, my jewelry essential series & must-have make-up.

Fall Wish List

Wish List item 1: Agate Necklace from Leif. Mega SWOON.

DIY Mexican Textile Bag & Boots

I can't get enough of Mexican, Guatemala, and Navajo textiles. I recently found a Mexican blanket with colors so rich and vibrant I had to have it, but the fabric itself had some wear and tear to it. I would NEVER have the heart to cut up such a piece but this one was struggling in a manor that suggested it needed my help, making it the perfect fabric to DIY into my own ethnic textile bag and boots to wear this fall and winter.
