Episode 4 // Hand Stamped Rug
We start this week off with episode 4 of HGTV Handmade, an episode I dig, because I needed rugs, texture, and some pattern in my new place. This video tutorial rendered me just that, and shows you how to customize your own rug, be it organic or man-made.
I am INTO the simple geometric triangle design, but what design would you choose? Let me know in the comments on the video!

Episode 3 // 3D Starburst Orbs
Today, Episode 3 of HGTV Handmade airs, and it's my favorite video to date. This week, I take a step forward in the evolving process of my creation of a wall that is my homage to midcentury starbursts. Watch the video here, and read on about the evolution of this project below.

// My mid-century starburst evolution //
+ July 2009: I made my first version of an atomic starburst mirror for Decor It Yourself on Threadbanger. It's long-since been one of my favorite creations, as it ushered me into my adoration of midcentury-inspired work. See the video for my first starburst mirror here.
+ June 2011: I made a sea urchin for my nautical bathroom video in a MAKE video, that sparked what you see in today's video. The sea urchin was basically the first 3D orb, he was just a purple sea creature friend as well.
+ September of 2011, I brought this atomic-age design inspiration into a clock for my kitchen, and in the same video created a second starburst for the living room wall. You can see how to create both of those in this video.

Episode 1 // A Mellow, Beachy Vibe
In Monday's debut video for HGTV Handmade, I made a driftwood and gem sculpture and showed you a few different ways to bring it into your home. You can go with different color palettes, stick with a masculine vibe, or create a mellow a monotone moment like this beachy version. I really dig this look and have found that a lot of viewers are digging it in the comment.

*Yes, you do see a spelling error in that thumbnail unfortunately. HGTV posted it, fixed it immediately, but it takes awhile to correct on YouTube's end. FIRST PANCAKE!

This/That: Knoxville Edition
The last 2 weeks involved 3 out-of-town trips, one visit from my best friend, one vow renewal, one huge career step forward, and lots of DIYs. I can share all but the last of those with you this week as I roll out my blog posts. The withheld information will be a big announcement coming in either later November or early December (at the latest). Trust me, it'll be worth it. I'll break these up into phases and trips starting with the one I just returned from in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Last week I....
Made this.
Made this.
Stirred this.
Wore this.
Worked with these oh-so-talented ladies on the aforementioned secret project.

How To Create an Autumnal Tablescape
The latest installment of my Pickie contributions embraces my new outdoor space and shows you how to create a bright and bold autumnal tablescape for the new fall season. Hop on over to see the full tutorial.
Due to an incredibly frustrating disturbance in my internet connection (Time Warner Cable is the DEA to my Walter White), my This/That segment could not be posted yesterday. Take my word for it that the this and the that of this weekend included THIS how to and THAT amazing finale. I'm still reeling from the latter.

DIY Lamp Up-Grade
The nautical lamp revamp I shared with you on MAKE awhile back got an up-grade to go along with our new place. I brought the dip dye trend into our lighting scheme using a white cotton lampshade and Jacquard dye. I poured the dye directly into my bathtub after mixing it, and set the top of the shade in the mixture. The dye crept up the cotton shade creating a beautiful organic look. When the first side was complete, I set it down on plastic lining to dry, then repeated the process on the other side. I highly recommend learning from my mistake and wear gloves.
I've tried this dip dye DIY on a few other items and am currently OBSESSED. Be careful Gracie, or I just might dip dye you.
*No bathtub or chihuahua mix was harmed in the process of this DIY.
