Beagle in a Box

DIY Lighting Week

Lighting is the back-bone of your home's aesthetic.

If you want to make ONE change to up-grade the look and feel of a space, I say invest in your lighting. There are so many cool ideas out there for us to tackle, I had to make 2 episodes dedicated to DIY lighting.

The first installment aired yesterday, where I made a Structured Blossom lamp, as seen on Design Sponge, here.

I added the element of color in the red lamp, and in my shades I used twice the felt I anticipated because I loved the really dense look. Spin it how ever you want, and share the result by sending me photos to meg@threadbanger.com

Check the Decor It Yourself Fanpage to see iconic lighting fixtures through the decades. Familiarize yourself with choice pieces you may want to collect over the years. This will help you score a sweet deal when you stumble across one.

See you next week with Part 2 of DIY Lighting!

Please help us fight MS!

This is my sister, Lauren. She is a kindergarten teacher, animal lover and rescuer, and the sweetest, best friend a girl could have. She also has MS, which is why we rally each year to kick its ass!

You may have read in a previous post about our fight against MS. Lauren, was diagnosed three years ago this March, and each year we gather to raise money, show our support, and fight this disease at the National MS Walk in our home town of Washington, D.C.

MS is a disease that CAN BE CURED! We make strides each and every year, and with funding and support from you, we can get even closer to a cure. To join our team or donate money click here! Or, you can Paypal the money to Meg@EnderbyNest.com, and I promise to pledge each and every dollar to our team. I will update the blog with a list of the wonderful people who donate to this important cause.

Here are Gracie and I after last year's walk where we raised over $2,000. This year we will have Milo and hopefully, your support. Join us in this fight! Every dollar counts, please help by donating here!

*Thank you to Justin Scribner for a very generous and sweet donation of $100 on the first day! Thank you Valerie Poliakoff for your sweet donation. We have a great start!

Our Home in Time Out New York

Time Out New York was the first and only magazine subscription I had, and could afford, when I first moved to the city. TONY was always in my bag, doggy-eared, high-lighted, with pages torn out where I had grabbed a great write-up on a gallery, book signing or restaurant. It is the perfect guide to New York City. They also show fantastic neighborhoods, and have recently gone inside cool NY homes in their new section House Calls. So when they reached out to me and asked to feature OUR HOME, I died, and then said yes.

They did a huge and gorgeous spread, with even more photos on their website. To see the whole thing, click here.

With gorgeous photos by Imogen Brown and a well-written article by Francesca Soroka, the segment represents our home well. Imogen and Francesca are two really cool women who seemed to really get us and appreciate our home's aesthetic. They genuinely were interested in knowing the stories behind each special piece in our home, and shared it perfectly in the article. Be sure to scroll on each photo to read more.

Some of these additional photos I found on Imogen's website, or she sent them to me.

Lucite Coffee Table

Well before we registered for a lucite coffee table in 2007, I have been coveting this design piece for our living room. Domino Magazine showed a larger-scale example above. Lucite would open up our whole space, making it feel larger.

We found a perfect solution in these three lucite nesting tables that I saw at Sandford and Sven's. We have them arranged perfectly to serve as our coffee table.

With the smallest placed under the largest, as per my husband's suggestion, we have the perfect spot to have our books, while clearing up the top of the table. I love it!

Perhaps the best part? Nothing blocks our view of the pups.

Tom Ford's 'A Single Man'

"If it's going to be a world with no time for sentiment, Grant, it's not a world that I want to live in."

Tom Ford's 'A Single Man' is an aesthetic masterpiece. Exquisitely shot, with such subtle nuances and intimate exchanges, viewing this film feels like a very personal experience.

Ford makes a seamless transition from fashion to film, bringing with him the same sharp eye for composition, structure, and beauty. He created a delicious world, a space in time that is stimulating, lovely, and in the form of film will last forever.

The evocative beauty in 'A Single Man' reawakens your senses and stimulates your mind's eye. I left feeling satiated and hungry for more at the same time.

Pastels in the Kitchen

I love the '50's malt shop pastel look in the kitchen. I am trying to accomplish this aesthetic with my atomic vintage aqua blue anchor color and my collection of raised sherbet dishes. Add the fridge I covet (in a few years) and a collection of vintage cake stands (that I have yet to build) and it's going to be perfect. In the meantime, Apartment Therapy posted a great round-up of the color palette for us (of course they did).

Until I create the perfect 1950's kitchen, take a gander at these from Hooked on Houses.

Homo Sweet Homo

You didn't really think I could see this and not share it with you? Homo Sweet Homo, by Fuldesign, is precious and cheeky and I'm 'bout to send it to my best friend.

I love kitchy embroidery with a wicked sense of humor thrown in.
